In Ventura County the trees that fall under the county ordinance include all trees in the "coastal zone." Further inland, outside of the "coastal zone," protected trees include all oaks and sycamores trees on privately owned land with 9.5" in circumference or bigger, any type of tree with “heritage” status (defined as having a 90" or larger circumference) , any trees designated by the county as having an historical significance, and most most of the native trees in the "Scenic Resources Protection Zone" that have 9.5" of girth (circumference). The Scenic Resources Protection Zone generally surrounds lakes, rivers and other bodies of water, inland.
